Haiti Emergency Relief Appeal
In January this year the world was shocked by the scale of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. CUA, its staff and members wanted to help. For two weeks after the earthquake CUA ran a fundraising campaign to help Haiti. CUA asked all staff to consider making a donation and announced that CUA would match staff donations dollar for dollar. Members and the general public were also able to make donations at any CUA branch.
The final tally for the Haiti fund-raising came in at over $15,000. Over $6,000 came from staff – which CUA then matched – and the remaining $3,000 represented donations from members.
CUA CEO Chris Whitehead said "I was absolutely blown away when I got the final tally for our Haiti fund-raising efforts. I never expected an outcome of this kind and want to take this opportunity to thank all who contributed."
